:: PREVIOUS AND OBJECT OF THE PROJECT

The Twon Planning Department, of the Seville City Council has foreseen the implementation of activities through projects designed for the reform and consolidation of the margins of the Dock of the Guadalquivir river, and to improve the accessibility and continuity on the projected existing riverside ways.

In the framework of these activities, the conservation of the "de la O" promenade is foreseen.

:: CURRENT STATE

The promenade is on a single level, except in the central section in which there are two platforms, next to the Dock with an extending of soil (alberto).
he constructive solutions and the materials conservation state are the one defined afterwards:

  • Paving
    The promenade paving has been done with small size stone (10.12.20) variable width with granite flagstone 80.40.20. This material has been also used in the platform under the top of the Triana bridge.
    The stone pavement is in good conditions with some puntual sinkings, and the granite slaps paving presents an advanced deterioration.
    The part of the promenade in parallel with the "Chapina" Place has paving of granite flagstones and concrete stone (20.10.6), and colour hydraulic slabs in various formats (40.20.4/60.40.4).
    The general state is in good conditions.

  • Containment walls
    All the existing walls in differents levels are placed with tile bricks with differents materiales. They present a variable deterioration, above all in the crowning.
    Landscape gardening.-
    The promenade presents a shore vegetation in the area nearby to the slope (talud) in which specimens of populus alba, populus nigra, chopus bolleana, chimux molle, ulmus pumila, catalpa bignonioides, hacer negundo, taxodium distichum, appears.
    The slopes corresponding to the back of the "Castilla" Street constructions, as well as the existing between the Promenade and the water lamina, are colonised with wild vegetation, and some shrubs species as nerium oleander, virunun or cestrum nocturnum.

  • Cleaning up
    According to EMASESA the existing network throughout the promenade is in good conditions.
    We have, likewise, suficient number of scuppers throughout the same.

  • Public ligthing system
    There are throughout the promenade 4 mts. garden lampposts.In the area nearby to the Triana bridge are located the same type of lights

:: URBAN SITUATION

  • The Urban Management General Plan in force characterises the Promenade as "green area and free spaces type V4" leisure area. By the mentioned qualification a degree of compatibility must be assumed between the recreation uses, with other kinds like sports, recreational, etc...

  • The Triana Special Protection Plan relates the public spaces protected the neighbourhood ("Altozano", "Betis" street, "Inquisición" Alley, "de la O" Alley, "Nuestra Sra. De la O" Alley, "Pureza" Street, "Sagrada Familia" Place). In all of them are elements that must be protected and put in value.

  • Relating to the "de la O" promenade it is indicated that the activities to make in it must promote their use as a playful space. The protection catalogue card established that its general configuration must be maintained: alignments, green area and relations with the construction.

  • The Special Protection Plan of the Sector 27-2 " Port - water lamina" regulates the water lamina uses of the Guadalquivir Dock, making compatible the tourist uses with other possible uses, as the sports one, and offers the promotion of the promenade shore in the Triana margin, and its continuity to the Cartuja Island.

:: PROPOSAL DESCRIPTION

We have proceeded to determine the problems in order to reduce their causes.

Present problems detected
- Underutilisation of the green and recreation area space, due to the vehicles proliferation and its scarce accesibility fo the Triana neighbourhood.
- Lack of receipt and visual communication of both borders of the dock by the excessive vegetation and the shrubs density.
- Lack in the continuity treatment of the pedestrian promenades between the "Betis" Street and the promenade, that ensure that the meeting point between this one and the Triana bridge become a true coat fund.
- Excessive complexity in the treatment of the promenade with respect to the different levels of the latter and the types of paving used.
- Deterioration in the paving and the transition landscapes spaces between the construction of the Promenade and the "Castilla" Street.
" Objectives of the action.-
Those defined in the Triana Special Protection Plan and in the later Special Plan of Sector 27 "Port - Water Lamina / Subsector 27/2".
- Promotion of the promenade shore and the public nature improving the accesibility, benefit and maintenance of this space.
- Regulation of uses in the water lamina, promoting those related to its navigable nature and support for playful and sports activities.
- Recovery of the urban landscape that corresponds to the sector,.

Characteristics of the offered intervention.
All the measures, technical criteria and solutions are justified on the basis to reach the aims set out previously.

- Elimination of the private vehicles parking places. Limitation access to the authorised garages and to vehicles for the conservation and maintenance activities. In order to promote its recreative and civic stay area.
- Improvement in the accesses in the end of the promenade, "Chapina" and "Betis" Street, through:
- the future way concerning the water lamina in the "Betis" Street, and
- the promotion of the link platform under the top of the Triana.
- Simplification of the promenade current levels, reducing them to one throughout the pedestrian promenade.
Geometric definition of the Promenade considering a possible location of stands during the "Velá de Santiago and Santa Ana" (public festivities). This area would include the whole front of the neighbourhood in contact with the Guadalquivir Dock, with access ways by its North, and "Chapina" place, facilitating parking places for private vehicles.
- Reform of existing paving, clarifying and changing it in agreement with the historical parcelling sector.
- Emphasize of the promenade singular points through a differentiated treatment of its paving. This will occur in the transit space under the Triana bridge, "de la O" Alley, and besides the explanade of the "Cachorro" bridge.
- Deep action with the existing gardening: maintenance of wooded and slope vegetation; elimination of shrubs and complete the devoid spaces with specimens of shore kinds.
- Implementation of works throughout the promenade designed to promote playful, sports practice, and navigation in the water lamina. Installation of new fishing platforms, activities for the practice of sport or navigation throughout the Dock.
- Improvements in the infrastructure networks including the complete renewal in the installation of public lighting system, canalisations, new lampposts and lights.
